Majesco has today unveiled Kengo: Legend of the 9 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. Developed by Genki and scheduled for a fall release, Kengo: Legend of the 9 sets players in feudal Japan on a mission to become the best samurai warrior in the land.
“Kengo’s stunning high definition graphics bring the game’s nine real samurai to life,” said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing, Majesco. “With its 2-player head-to-head mode, attribute upgrades and fighter customization, Kengo: Legend of the 9 offers a great deal of next generation gameplay at a fraction of the price.”
Kengo: Legend of the 9 features nine real samurai warriors: Musashi Miyamoto, Jubei Yagyu and Sanako Chiba, among others. Each has his/her own storyline, attack techniques and upgradeable attributes (health, stamina, attack power and defense). Four modes of play offer a range of gameplay options, including the storyline advancing Main Mode; Mission Mode which challenges players to complete 10 missions within a specific time frame; Combat Mode that features two-player, head-to-head battles; and Xbox Live Leaderboard where players compete for new equipment and the best ranking against other Xbox Live gamers by pitting AI profiles against each other.

Both Xbox 360 and PS3 will be seeing Silent Hill 5 by the end of 2007, according to the rumor section of the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. This would be the first iteration of the series on either console.
The other tidbit from EGM states that development of the Xbox 360 and PS3 title will be spearheaded in by Konami in the United States instead of in Japan.
The website CVG reported in April that Akira Yamaoka, the producer of Silent Hill 2 on PC, would be working on the latest SH game. “At the moment I cannot reveal much detail on the story, or our progress, but I can tell you that this game will resemble Silent Hill 2 in the terms of the way the player is directed and the characters’ behaviour,” said Yamaoka.
Konami has yet to comment on the magazine’s assertions, but we’ll be on the lookout for more details about SH5 as they become available.

Ever dreamed about playing your fave Xbox 360 title but while using a Wiimote? Sure, it sounds like a Bizarro World concept, but Wii-FTW forum admin “Sir CRX” appears to have created a mod to achieve this goal.
From Wii-FTW:
Through the use of 1 Nintendo Wii remote and 1 Xbox 360 controller, yours truly has created a way to use any computer accessory (even an additional wiimote) to control your 360. Click here to look at the simple wiring. Only 4 buttons are currently supported but joystick, and all additional buttons will come later(as well as a how to). This is only the first “phase” or “version” of this project.
A YouTube video of the alleged mod in action can be seen here. The only problem — it doesn’t have any of the Wiimote functionality outside of the buttons. So there’s no motion sensing. Looks like we’re going to have to stick with our tried ‘n’ true wireless 360 controller.

It looks like Saints Row will wind up staying an Xbox 360 exclusive, while the sequel will be headed to both Xbox 360 and PS3. Originally, a port had been announced for PlayStation 3, but THQ instead decided to focus on Saints Row 2. Out with the old and in with the new, we say.
“The original Saints Row earned critical acclaim for its stunning graphics, unparalleled customization options and the genre’s first-ever online multiplayer,” said Kelly Flock, executive vice president of worldwide publishing, THQ. “The game’s worldwide success shows the growing fanaticism for open-world gaming and our talented team at Volition is now using their proprietary technology to revolutionize the genre yet again.”
The sequel to Saints Row is scheduled to ship for Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2008. The game will utilize Volition’s proprietary open-world engine and deliver an all-new, cross platform gaming experience.

A recent analysis shows that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Elite costs almost $500 less to produce than Sony’s PS3.
The analysis was performed by DigiTimes, who crunched figures that they received from iSuppli. Their math shows that the total cost to produce an Xbox 360 Elite is $323.30 while the console retails for $399. This would appear to give Microsoft a small profit on every unit sold.
To price to produce Sony’s PS3, according to their figures, shows as a whopping $840.35 per unit. Each PlayStation 3 currently sells for $599 in the USA. This would give the indication that Sony is taking a bath every time the company makes a sale.
But supposedly production costs for PlayStation 3 may go down as much as $100 in the very near future. From DigiTimes:
Sony Shiroishi Semiconductor, a wholly owned Sony subsidiary, on April 23 announced an expansion of its monthly production capacity of blue-violet laser diodes, a key component of HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) PUHs, to 1.7 million diodes as well as the beginning of volume production of 240mW (milliwatts) blue-violet laser diodes in November of 2007. This will greatly increase the supply of blue-laser PUHs at lower prices, the sources indicated, noting the reduction of costs could reach US $100.

Virtua Fighter 5 has already been released on PS3 and is set to hit the shelves on Xbox 360 this August in Europe and North America.
Oddly enough, developers developers Tohru Murayama and Yoshihiro Tsuzuku recently told Games Radar that they had to beg for the opportunity to bring the game to Microsoft’s next-gen console.
“After the experience of making the PS3 version, the team really wanted the chance to try making the game for the 360 as well,” Tsuzuku said. “We wanted to give VF5 a broad availability on next-gen consoles. We really begged the company to let us go ahead with it.”
So, now that they’ve worked on both platforms…which was easier?
“[I]t took us about the same amount of time to produce both versions,” Murayama explained. “I say they were both about equally challenging to develop.”
“In some ways, I think developing for the 360 was easier,” Tsuzuku chimed in. “Microsoft software development kits, for example, were very well put together and they were also very helpful in responding to our requests and in supporting the team. From a developer perspective, that made things a lot easier. The development tools they provided were also a big help in measuring game performance as we went along.”

THQ Inc. today announced the critically acclaimed open-world action title Saints Row, for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, has been added to the Platinum Hits series, just nine months after its release. Beginning today, Saints Row on Xbox 360 will be available for the suggested retail price of $29.99 at retail outlets throughout North America.
Saints Row revolutionized the open-world action genre as the first game of its kind on next-generation hardware,” said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ. “Achieving Platinum Hits status in just nine months is a tribute to Volition’s talented development team, and we look forward to leveraging their proprietary open-world engine to continue pushing the genre forward.”
In the game, players start as a member of the 3rd Street Saints. Under constant threat from rival gangs and corrupt officials, the city of Stilwater must be conquered one district at a time. Saints Row starts with a bang and never slows down, offering an unparalleled level of character and vehicle customization and the freedom to progress through the game any way the player chooses. Every action taken in the fully dynamic world is an opportunity for players to earn respect. With enough respect, the city evolves into a giant playground for the player to traverse. Saints Row is revolutionizing the open world genre with an online multiplayer experience, allowing players to battle it out against rival gangs online for the first time. The game will support 12 players on Xbox Live online entertainment network.
