Sony’s been talking about the power of their cell processor since day one. The power is yet to be unlocked but there are many games beginning to tap into its real potential (Seen in Killzone 2). Ever since the PS3 came out, Sony was touting about how powerful it would be and how the cell processor would allow game developers the opportunity to showcase games at a quality the competitors (360) couldn’t match. The problem lied with the notoriously hard cell to develop for. But enough about the PS3; I’m here to talk about another piece of art known as Alan Wake. The Xbox 360 has been out for 3 years now and has shown great quality titles over that life span. Microsoft was able to deliver great titles from 1st party developers as well as 3rd party developers that looked amazing running exclusively on the 360 such as Forza Motorsport 2, Gears of War 1& 2, Mass Effect, and Halo 3. Sony’s machine has shown Killzone 2, Uncharted, Resistance 2; these games step it up another level and gamers are starting to see the graphics barrier rise on Sony’s console. However, Microsoft always finds a way to answer to their competitors as well as their fans; now they are also answering to all the people who don’t believe Xbox360 can run something that looks near flawless with the upcoming and eagerly anticipated release of Alan Wake. We may finally see a game on the 360 exclusively that can challenge Sony’s cell processor that will show everyone what the 360 really packs.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was set to be released in North America on the 19th, and in Europe the following day. But somehow sneaky and nefarious pirates managed to apprehend a copy of the 6.4 GB game.

Streetfighter IV - latest design

The PC release date has not even been set yet — ironically, probably due to concerns that people will pirate the game instead of buying the console version. Pirating Xbox games requires hardware modification however, so piracy is more widespread on the PC platform, where it is relatively easy to illegally download and install games. Pirated PC games generally run smoother than legally purchased games because they’ve had their DRM compromised, so this also makes fighting PC piracy an uphill battle.

One of the biggest reasons to come to PAX 2008 is the first public hands-on showing of the highly-anticipated Gears of War 2 multiplayer modes. We put some time in with the game and are ready to give you our hands-on impressions of Epic’s great follow-up to the highly addiction multiplayer of the original Gears of War.

First things first… the game is 5 versus 5 and it definitely adds a lot more action to the matches. Thankfully, adding two more players doesn’t seem to have slowed down the game and it runs smooth, even is the most hectic firefights. We cannot comment on how these two extra gamers will affect lag over Xbox Live as we were playing over a local System Link.

So is the game “bigger, better, and more badass?”

Yes. Yes it is. If you were a fan of the original Gears, we’re pretty sure you’re also going to love Gears of War 2. It takes everything that was great about the first game, amps it up, and adds a lot of new things to freshen up the gameplay. Let’s take a look at the new weapons first. Sadly, we didn’t get to try them all.

This is straight from PAX, so take from it what you will! I imagine this is something to do with the rumored “Expansion Pack” that has been hinted in past Halo videos. “You may have finished the fight, but the ride isn’t over just yet” - Words that have intrigued all of us Halo 3 fans for nearly a month, perhaps these words may now have been answered. There are however literally hundreds of things this could be, so we’ll wait to see what “Mythic” actually is. We’ve contacted Microsoft for an official comment on this.
A few things we can see:

The first order of business this morning at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, was to head on over to the Bethesda booth on the Expo floor for our appointment to play Fallout 3 for a whole hour. By ourselves. In an awesome air-conditioned Airstream trailer, decorated inside with vintage 1950’s accoutrements and furniture for that authentic look. With lots and lots of Nuka-Cola. Needless to say, excitement was very high.
Of course, only spending an hour with a game as expansive as Fallout 3 is hardly a decent taste of such an enormous feast. But this little amuse-bouche was just what we needed from a game that we are really looking forward to sinking our teeth into when it releases in late October. Bethesda’s prior game, Oblivion – which has a similar “flow” to it as Fallout 3, according to Game Director Todd Howard – was a powerfully addictive experience. And we’re old enough to remember how great the original Fallout was in terms of style and tone. So as far as “want lists” go, Fallout 3 is sitting pretty at the top of ours.

Speaking with Lionhead Studio’s Sam Van Tilburgh earlier today I discovered that Pub Games won’t be the only way you can earn cash for Fable 2.

When the game’s official website relaunches it will include a web game or two that allows you to earn Fable 2 gold and unlock goodies like dye pots and a chicken suit for the game. All told, gamers will be able to unlock six to seven special items through the website, Van Tilburgh said. You can also earn coin through the games.

Halo Wars is a strategy game based on the legendary Halo universe. Players will command armies of familiar and new UNSC units in its initial encounters against the Covenant, an alien coalition threatening to obliterate mankind. Halo Wars will immerse gamers in an early period of the storied Halo universe, allowing them to experience events leading up to the first Halo title for Xbox. With the guidance of Serina, a spirited artificial intelligence (AI) persona, gamers will direct legions of UNSC soldiers, Warthogs and Scorpions against Covenant Grunts, Elites, Ghosts and Scarabs, each group having its own strengths and uses in battle. Strategic-minded players who react well under pressure will emerge victorious.

Created from the ground up for the Xbox 360 console and Controller, Halo Wars is being developed by the veteran real-time strategy developer Ensemble Studios, the team responsible for the best-selling and critically acclaimed Age of Empires franchise on the PC. Halo Wars can be played online via Xbox LIVE and through the single-player campaign. Published by Microsoft Game Studios, Halo Wars is an exclusive title for the Xbox 360 video game system.
