I hear the term GAMER all the time. Usually it is used with disgust as someone asks if I am one. By GAMER, they mean a sweaty teen in his parent’s basement, or a sweaty 40 year old in his mother’s basement. They really are referring to a biased term used by media know-it-alls, and clueless game company execs to describe hardcore gamers. So, my answer is sometimes NO and sometimes MAYBE. I don’t really have a definitive answer because I like games and I play games, and I make games, but my total being is not summed up with that one title. Especially one that is used with such derision by so many in the media so often. Gamer to them is a sickness. I once even had a mild case of it. But the media and even big game companies seem to be prescribing either aspirin (casual games) or open heart surgery (Halo 3 online with achievements) to the ailment these days. Read more…

Who’s winning the console war right now? If you answered “Wii”, then guess again.
Although the Wii has indisputably made its way into more homes than the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3, it should not be considered the most successful console of this generation so far. No, I’m not trying to trip you up, either: Nintendo DS is not the answer. Despite falling a few million units behind in terms of console sales, the Xbox 360 is actually winning this generation. Let me explain why.

The Xbox 360 had one of the strongest years in console gaming, second only to the Nintendo Wii, the charming console for the whole family. But amidst all the success and the record-breaking sales, an ugly demon reared its head as well, the ‘Red Ring of Death.’ The Ring of Light on the front of the Xbox usually greets us with its swirling green lights accompanied by the faint hum of the Xbox whirring to life. Sometimes, it doesn’t. Should you have ever tried to boot the console up with the A/V cables loose or the power brick or AC adapters loose, you’ve seen the 4 red lights and you’ve felt your heart splash as it hit the bottom of your stomach, but upon further inspection, you’re still good to go. But what about the countless number of consoles that were one red light short, the 3 red flashing lights that testify to the utter death of your Xbox 360?

The Dallas Business Journal shaked the gaming community today by claiming with a bold headline that it knew the release date and platforms Duke Nukem Forever will launch. The publication reported:
“We’re really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360,” said Miller during an interview with the DBJ. “We’re talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year.”

Guess the guy wasn’t all too happy with everyone mailing him about their Red Ring of Death.
On Wednesday we reported about a guy who got a brand new X360 after mailing Bill Gates about the problems he was having with his console. Tons of news sites reported on this and the result seems to have been a massive increase in angry mails towards the man.
